How to Visit Your Child in Orange County Juvenile Hall

Law Office of Katie Walsh

There are many specific requirements to visit an inmate at Orange County Juvenile, so you’ll want to come prepared. As an experienced Orange County juvenile defense attorney, our office is very familiar with visiting policies at OC juvie. There are a lot of rules to be familiar with, but taking the time in advance to educate yourself will make things go much smoother.

General Visiting Policies and Procedures

Always remember that visitations at OC juvie are a privilege, not a right, for both parents and inmates. Upon arrival, visitors must pass through a metal detector and metal items will be inspected. Visitors must check-in 15 minutes before their scheduled visiting time. Everyone must fill out a visitor’s pass and provide necessary documentation. Only a valid government-issued picture ID, such as a driver’s license or passport, is acceptable. Furthermore, you may bring your child magazines and paperback books on appropriate subject matters that have the inmate’s name marked on them. Any reading material you bring in will be thoroughly inspected. Additionally, visitors may be arrested for attempting to bring in drugs, weapons, or alcohol. Finally, be aware that, at the staff’s discretion, a visit can be terminated at any time. Visiting access can be denied indefinitely as well.

When Can I Visit?

Visiting hours at Orange County Juvenile Hall are based on the last name of the inmate. The visiting hours are as follows:

  • Last names starting with A through G: Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
  • Last names starting with H through O: Saturdays from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
  • Last names starting with P through Z: Sundays from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Visiting hours do change from time to time, so always consult the OC Juvenile Hall website before visiting.

Visiting Dress Code

Visitors wearing clothing or accessories displaying offensive language or images will not be allowed inside. As Orange County juvenile defense attorneys who visit the facility often, we recommend parents dress modestly and respectfully. Here are more dress code guidelines:

  • Open-toed shoes, sandals, and flip-flops are not permitted.
  • Clothing must not be revealing or too tight. This includes: mini skirts, sheer or transparent garments, halter tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, clothing exposing the breasts, cleavage, mid-drift, genitals, back, or buttocks. Shorts, dresses, and skirts must come down to at least two inches above the knee.
  • Gang-related symbols or insignia are not permitted.
  • Only religious or medically-necessary hats and head coverings are allowed.
  • Gloves, sunglasses, and bobby pins are not acceptable.

Who Is Allowed to Visit

Only documented parents, stepparents, legal guardians, lawyers, police and probation officers, and clergy may visit inmates at Orange County Juvenile Hall. With proper authorization, others may visit, such as siblings, grandparents, and other relatives.
